Hanamaruken in The Grove by Rockwell, Ugong, Pasig - WTF Food Review

Hanamaruken in The Grove by Rockwell Review
If there is one thing that the WTF team loves, it's ramen!
Hanamaruken - I have been waiting to try this place after experiencing the Happiness Ramen in their Trinoma branch. One fair evening when our family is deciding where to eat, I suggested that we head out to The Groove By Rockwell and try Hanamaruken. I was intimidated at first because my dad lived and worked in Japan for a couple of years and have tried countless authentic ramen on his stay there. I've been boasting to them how delicate and savory the ramens in Hanamaruken are.
While they were busy looking at the menu, I was busy checking out the interior of the place. They've remained consistent with their other branch as you can still see authentic Japanese interior designs which uplifts the mood in the dining area while providing a vibrant look to the restaurant.

Their menu is very simple and straightforward - although some items need description as you won't have any idea which is what, like the Drunk Man Rice Bowl, with that name, you have no idea what it contains and what its made off, but good thing is that their servers are really approachable and will answer your questions regarding their menu item. They will also provide each guest with a complimentary Roasted Rice Tea which is delicious, great for starting up your appetite.

My dad ordered Pot Belly Ramen (PHP390) and Happiness Rice Bowl (PHP280) for my mom. My wife ordered Happiness Rice Bowl as well and of course, I ordered Hanamaruken's Signature Happiness Ramen (PHP580). One of my brothers also ordered their Drunk Man Rice Bowl (PHP320). After a good 10-15 minutes of waiting, our orders arrived.

Happiness Ramen - A shoyu tonkotsu broth ramen topped with a tender, slow-braised custom cut soft bone rib which is actually cooked for hours, making the meat so tender, releasing its epic flavor to the broth.

Happiness Rice Bowl - the meat serving is not that big compared to the ramen version? Anyways, for the price, I wish they could add more rice and meat to it. It's like the Signature Happiness Ramen but without the broth and noodles but with the consistent flavor

Drunk Man Rice Bowl - the spiciness is on point! Love the way they seasoned the Kakuni. Once in your mouth, it will play delightfully with your palate with unique flavors and with the touch of 2 eggs sitting on your fluffy steamed rice? This one can surely cure your hangover! Dying to know how they season their pork on this one.

Pot Belly Ramen - my dad loved it! He said that he felt he's back in Japan. The broth is on point and the portioning of the pork belly is very generous in the sense of fat:meat ratio. The finishing touch of scallions really complements the tender pork broth.

Overall, my review will stay the same as the Trinoma branch. I will definitely go back! How I wish they can tone down their price on their Happiness Ramen as sooner or later a ramen with the same caliber but with a cheaper price will come.
While waiting, feel free to roam around and read as much as you can, know the history of what you eat.

  • Place
    • Although small, it still boasts the same vibe from their other branches which is a good thing as it adds authenticity to the food that they serve plus the place is well air-conditioned.
  • Service
    • Very approachable servers who will give you tips on what to order.
    • They will proactively ask you if you want a refill of your tea or water.
  • Price
    • This is very subjective as I just want the best for them. Since ramen is becoming famous for Filipinos, I think they should trim down their price or go back to their old price PHP480. The ramen is good, hands down, but sooner or later someone may overtake Hanamaruken when it comes to its price.
